Changes & Creative Journal 1

As some of you may have noticed, I made some changes on the blog. I decided I wanted to use my own design and I’m into the silhouette thing right now. I’m also loving color right now, so I thought with this design I could play around with different color combos based on the changing seasons, right? Right. I also played with the template a bit so more could fit across your screen, and added a few new tunes to the playlist. So there you have it. =)

I’m also planning on changing a few things in regards to content. I’d like to delve more into the title of my blog, “Scrap Your Story”. I picked this title for a reason (over a year ago, mind you) and have never really expanded on that, so I believe it’s past time I begin doing that. The first thing I’d like to add is called “Creative Journal”. I thought it would be fun to document my creative process occasionally. I’ll choose a project, photograph it step by step, and post it in real time as I complete each step. This may take a day, or several weeks depending on the project, my schedule, and my mood. But the fun part is, you get to see it all unfolding–well, at least I hope that’s the fun part for you. =)

So…without further ado…here is Creative Journal 1: Episode 1

With this layout, I am starting from an inspiration piece. I found this ad (coutesy of the Pub Ad Challenge on 2 peas) and really liked some of the elements from it, so I thought about what I wanted to replicate from it, browsed through my photos until I found some that worked with the design, edited and resized them in photoshop, and then printed them on some photopaper. I always print at home because it allows me the freedom to crop and resize my photos to exactly fit my design. (Plus I’m impatient and lazy–don’t like to go to the store if I don’t have to, and I don’t like waiting for prints.) I use an HP Photosmart C3180 printer/scanner/copier and I love the quality.

I will probably let these sit on my desk for a day or two while I mull over the design some more (possibly sketching something out), think of colors and products I could use, and then I’ll get back to working on it. Do I start every page this way? No. It varies depending on the project, my mood, and whether or not it’s an assignment. But I do start this way fairly often. Check back in the next day or two to see where this project goes!

  1. I like the new design title. I am undergoing a face lift too! Its so frustrating for me. I am not good with html. i’m sorta using cliff notes from other’s on their blogs or ask questions of other’s that have custom done theirs.

I am too using this pub ad challenge to do a layout. I just haven’t gotten to it yet this week.

The mountain of laundry is seriously calling my name.

Stop by some time to see my work in progress.

  2. Love your new look Aly! I also like the idea of sharing your progress with your projects. I have learned so much from others sharing exactly how they accomplished the end result.

  3. I just love the colors that you are using here, and I am very thrilled to be learning about this from a pro like yourself! Hope you are well and that your family is as well!
