If you’re little one is having a birthday soon, here’s a fun idea for a DIY paper party hat using the new We R Memory Keepers Feelin Groovy collection, and the Twist Trimmer. These are easy to make, and you can involve your child/grandchild in the creation process. Match your patterned paper to your party’s theme.
Start by downloading the free printable template HERE. You can either print it on plain cardstock, cut it out, and trace it onto the back of your patterned paper, or you can trim your 12×12 patterned paper to 8.5×11 and print the template directly onto the back of it.
Next, cut it out, roll it together, and glue the edges. Once it’s dry, you can embellish it to your hearts content with stickers, flowers, tags, trim, ribbon…anything you’d like.
To create the fringe at the top, simply trim several 1/4 x 3 inch strips of patterned paper using different trimmer blades (or your can use deco scissors). Secure them at one end with a rubber band and add them to the top of the cone hat with some hot glue. Bend and separate the strips for a cool look.
Add some baker’s twine (or elastic cord) to secure around your child’s chin by punching holes in the sides and tying the twine through the holes. I used eyelets to prevent tearing. Have fun making these, and enjoy!
