craft christmas countdown: day 15

There’s nothing like drinking a cup of hot cocoa by the fire during the cold holiday weather.  Hot cocoa kits are a fun gift to give during the holidays to teachers, neighbors, co-workers, or friends.  Check out the fun hot cocoa kit I made below using some Lifestyle Crafts dies and my Evolution tool:

I found this hot drink commuter cup at the the dollar store that fits the Lifestyle Crafts Drink Sleeve Template Die, and I die cut some sheets of wool felt. The Holly Punches Die was perfect for adding an accent to the oval background.  I used hot glue to secure the felt die cuts.

Then I placed two packets of my favorite hot cocoa mix with two peppermint sticks into a small clear gift bag, and added a tag with some baker’s twine.  The hot cocoa bag fits perfectly inside the commuter cup, and the felt drink sleeve will keep your recipient’s hand from getting too toasty.

Designer tip: when cutting felt with the Evolution and thin metal dies be sure to use real wool felt–you’ll get a much cleaner cut.  You’ll also need to include a thin sheet of cardboard in your “sandwich” when running it through the Evolution.  Here’s the order your sandwich needs to be in: 1) Genius platform base, 2) metal die, 3) wool felt, 4) thin sheet of cardboard, 5) Genius cutting mat.

You’ll need to run it through a few times to get the best results.  Play around with cardboard sheets of different thicknesses.  You can also add a piece or two of cardstock if needed.
