Need some project inspiration?

I feel passionately that life is worth celebrating, that each story is worth telling–the ordinary and the extraordinary. I love this wonderful hobby of scrapbooking because it does exactly that, but I also love scrapbooking because it celebrates the creative side of life. While scrapbooking is my first love, I find joy in creating just about anything with paper. And one of my favorite tips to help find more creative time is to recycle my favorite page designs and use them to create something else.

For example, here’s a layout I created for my Craftsy class with a fun starburst design. A starburst design is one of my favorite ways to use up scraps, mix up my favorite patterned papers, and make a real statement on my page.
And here’s a card I created recently, recycling the starburst design. I saved a lot of time on this card since I didn’t have to come up with a new design. Why reinvent the wheel, right?

I don’t always use recycled designs–sometimes it’s fun to try new things, and step out of my crafty comfort zone. But recycling my designs is another tool in my crafty tool box that I can pull out when the time is right.
If you like this tip and fun layout design you’ll love the other six layouts you’ll create in my Playful Layouts Craftsy class. Each layout includes an eye-catching design and a playful technique that celebrate your everyday moments and record them in a special way. Plus, each technique you learn can be applied to cards, mini albums, and other paper craft projects.

Now for the giveaway!

I’m giving away one free spot in my Playful Layouts class to one of you fabulous readers. If you’d like to be considered for this giveaway leave a comment below telling me one of your favorite paper crafting tips. Comments will close Thursday, May 7th at midnight (Mountain Time) and I’ll announce a random winner on Friday, May 8th. Good luck, and don’t forget to check back to see if you won!

  1. Omgosh I would love to join your class. Ok, lets see my best paper crafting tip…Buy, Buy, Buy…then use, use, use! That's probably not what you had in mind but works for me 🙂

  2. Paper crafting tip? I think I would say when I learned how to line up my alphabet stickers on a ruler edge before applying them to my page. It helped everything line up so much better! Happy NSD!

  3. One of my favorite tips is to use old, uninspiring chipboard from your stash under items to elevate it on your layouts. Saves $$ on foam adhesive!

  4. Love your bright, colorful card (I'm all about the brights myself!) And I had to laugh about the magic housecleaning fairy, I would love one of those myself for sure!

  5. I love to use my scraps to cut out different shapes circles, hearts, triangles etc and create designs on my cards and layouts.

  6. I adore your ideas, so creative and unique! The colors you choose are so bright and cheery, too! Thanks for the free printables, I will enjoy using them! Wendy

  7. I listen to books on my IPOD anything with a mystery. Love to drink coffee and water. Love playing with our 5 rescue Westies. I always enjoy making cards and participating in card drives for a good cause and OWH.

  8. Fun page, lovely card! Papercrafting tip: do what feels right for you. Trends come and go and it's great to incorporate them if it's something you like or feels right. However, if the trend isn't you, don't chase it.

  9. Tip: scrapbooking should be fun. I don't stress being behind in my layouts, the sewing machine jamming up & punching holes in my page or stamped images that are not whole images (well, I don't stress too much!!)

  10. Before attending a crop, prepare and organizes your pages and/or assembled kits to maximize your time and productivity. This takes time but is worth the effort!

  11. The first tip I ever got for putting pattern papers together is to put them down and take a step or two back and see if they look good to you or not.

  12. I love your card!! before I start making a card I think about who it is for to give me inspiration in what direction I want to go with the card

  13. Never compare yourself to others with the pages. Appreciate all styles of scrapbooking. Enjoy your crafting time. Those are a few fun tips. I would love to take your Craftsy class. Thanks,

  14. My favourite tip is to scrap lift. I struggle with design of a page, so I skip that part and get yo my favourite part – picking out pretty papers!

  15. I'd love to take your class, Aly! Your stashbusting classes at BPC were some of my favorites. Thank you for the generous giveaway!

My favorite scrapping tip is to use vellum! I use it to tone down really bold papers, to soften the look of a layout, to journal on… I love the stuff.

  16. Thanks for your inspiration and a chance to your class! My papercrafting tip: once you find a pp that will work, quit looking for something better. Just use it and get started.

  17. My tip: don't be afraid to mix patterns. I find so many people will use only one.

Happy NSDay!! Your class sounds like it would be interesting.

  18. Never never throw away any scraps.. Thanks for giveaway chance. Great ray of sunshine with the colours… Happy Crafting!! good luck all

  19. My craft tip is: never rush to finish a project. Take your time to enjoy the process. For me it’s more about making something I love and not a marathon of how many projects I have done so far. Thanks for sharing.

  20. Would love to win a spot in your class! I have learned that once I like a design or layout, use it again and again!

  21. Thanks for the chance!
Um, my fave tip and a brand new thing I have started in my own craft room is the "Use or Lose it" box for supplies I have had for ages!!
