I love to display photos in my home. Seeing a quick reminder of wonderful memories when I pass my favorite photos always makes me smile. So when I got my hands on the beautiful new Echo Park Our Family Mini Theme I knew I wanted to make a family themed photo frame that I could display in my home and enjoy.
I had an extra embroidery hoop leftover from another project stashed in my craft room so I decided to use it as a frame for a recent family photo and create an altered embroidery hoop. My hoop is 6” in diameter, so I started by cutting a 7” circle from the Our Family Houses paper.
Then I opened the embroidery hoop and pulled out the smaller piece. I centered it on the back side of the circle I cut, traced around it, and then created tabs by cutting small slits around the circle from the outside to the traced line about every ¾”. I placed some double sided tape around the outside of the smaller hoop and then wrapped the tabs around the edge of the hoop pressing the paper into the tape to secure it. I placed the larger hoop over the smaller one, and screwed it closed tightly.
I embellished my hoop with a heart patterned journaling card, some die cuts, some banner strips, washi tape, enamel dots, and some accent stickers. I love the extra dimension and flare that the designer products add. I embossed the red title strip, die cut a tag, and die cut the word “forever” for my title as well. I included a black and white family photo—I love how the black and white color gives the photo a more ethereal feel.
And yes, it makes me smile when I see our family photo on this project every time I pass it. Thanks for letting me share this project with you today!
