alphabet punch board st. patrick’s day banner

We’ve got a little Irish blood here at my house, so we love to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. For us it’s a fun and frivolous holiday where we like to be creative and find fun new ways to incorporate all things green, gold, rainbow, and leprechaun into our food and decor.

After seeing the Easy Heart Garland I created with my We R Memory Keepers Alphabet Punch Board you knew this was coming, right? I am seriously having a blast playing with this new tool! I figured out how to make four leaf clover shapes with it and created this darling So Lucky banner for St. Patrick’s Day. Check out how I combined the Alphabet Punch Board with some other amazing We R tools to make this fun party decor.

To make this four leaf clover banner I trimmed my green 12×12 American Crafts Cardstock to 5″ x 5″ and then punched it in the “valley” punch on the Alphabet Punch Board on all four sides. The paper fits perfectly into the guides so there’s no need to guess where to place it.

Your paper will look like this when you’re done.

Next, punch all four corners of your paper in the corner rounder side of the punch.

When you’re done, your paper will look like this–a lovely four leaf clover top.

Next I embossed the “clover leaves” in my Evolution Advanced with the Dotted 3D Next Level Embossing Folder to give it some texture and visual interest. The effect of these 3D Next Level Embossing Folders is amazing!

To create stems for my four leaf clovers I cut 2″ pennant banners with my Banner Punch Board and turned them upside down. I adhered them to the back of the embossed clovers with mini glue dots.

Then I punched several 2″ circles from some gorgeous Bazzill Gold Foil Cardstock to mimic gold coins from the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

I used the We R Memory Keepers Link Punch to punch link strips from green cardstock scraps.

Then I used the Link Punch to punch slits in the sides of the gold coins and four leaf clovers so I could link them together with the strips. It’s easy to place the clovers in the punch in just the right spot using the guide.

I linked all my banner pieces together using the link strips and slits.

Last, I added some white cardstock squares turned on their sides to look like diamonds, and placed gold foil Thickers on top to spell “So Lucky”.

I love how this turned out! It kind of reminds me of the clubs from a deck of playing cards. The diamonds seem to fit well with those shapes, and the gold and green colors are just delicious. This banner sits right above the console in our front entryway and is the perfect welcome for guests this time of year.
