light strand moss wreath

Happy Friday friends! Today I’m really feeling the spring weather here and I’ve been meaning to update my craft room door decor, so I decided to make this spring-inspired Light Strand Moss Wreath. I used the DIY Party Globe Punch and Vellum Pad to create the light bulb covers, and my beloved Banner Punch Board to make the pennants.

To create this spring Light Strand Moss Wreath, I used a 14″ Square Wire Wreath Form , a 18 x 16″ moss sheet, and my Sticky Thumb Cordless Hot Glue Gun.

I laid the moss sheet face down, and placed the wreath form on top in the center. Then I used my craft knife to cut eight lines from the center of the moss sheet toward the inside edge of the wreath form, making sure to end one line at each corner, and then one line halfway between each corner.

Then I wrapped the moss sheet around the wreath form, using my hot glue gun to attach it to the back of the wreath. I had to trim a couple of inches off the pieces I cut so they fit into the back of the wreath form.

Once I covered my wreath form with moss, I prepared my light strand with little vellum paper globes. The DIY Party Globe Punch and Vellum Pad made that happen quickly and easily. You can use the pre-cut pad, or simply trim your paper to 4×7 inches, and then follow the easy instructions included with the punch.

I stuck with a sweet spring color palette, and I love how the pastel colors look against the fresh green moss. Once you’ve punched your paper, attach the bottom hooks, insert your light bulb with the cover on, and then wrap the top hooks around the cord of the light bulb to close up your globe.

To cover up the bare white cord and to add a little more fun to the wreath, I cut several 2″ folding pennant banners with my Banner Punch Board. Just fold a 4 inch strip of paper in half, and then cut with the board as usual. Then I adhered the banners over the light strand cord.

I attached the light strand to the wreath with twine tied to the back wires. You could also use twist ties or zip ties. The wreath only fits 9 of the 12 bulbs, so I tucked the remaining three into the back bottom of the wreath where I tied the battery pack. Tip: Be sure to secure the battery pack in the center bottom or top of the wreath to help the wreath balance properly.
