“sweet” 16 donut party decor

My oldest daughter recently celebrated her 16th birthday. She’s a fairly laid back girl that’s simple in her style and taste. As a new high school junior it was a little tricky for us to nail down a party theme that she felt comfortable with for her girl and guy friends, but we finally settled on donuts. Who doesn’t love donuts?

We decided on a donut cake, which was super easy. We just headed to our local Krispy Kreme and picked up two dozen of the yummiest prettiest donuts and put them on a cake plate. So simple and delish!

I made some DIY Party Mini Piñatas in donut and cupcake shapes. They bare chipboard shapes come in packages of three and all we did was add the Fringe Tape and some paper frosting and sprinkles.

P.S. Funny story–I didn’t have much time to stage and shoot these photos before the party and I didn’t realize the cupcakes were backwards until it was too late to shoot them again. So…here’s what they looked like on the front side. Cute, huh?  =)

For the birthday girl I made number 1 and number 6 piñatas for her 16th birthday. We filled them all with saltwater taffy and jolly ranchers candies.

I used some donut patterned paper from the We R Memory Keepers Urban Chic collection to dress up a mason jar full of straws for the drinks.

We also made some DIY Donut Balloons. Super fun! I’ll share a full tutorial for that later on.

My daughter and her friends had a great time at the party playing games, eating, and roasting s’mores over our outdoor fire pit. They loved the donut cake and sweet party favors!

Stay tuned for more DIY donut projects next month!
