Last week I shared our finally completed DIY Indoor Halloween Decor. One of the DIY projects included in our Halloween entryway is a DIY gold dipped pumpkin as well as a vase full of gold striped branches. This DIY gold dipped craft pumpkin would look great with just about any Halloween decor, and is a classic design that will last for several years.
I started with an old craft pumpkin I purchased on clearance after Halloween a few years ago. It was orange, and I wanted it white. So…I grabbed my DecoArt Americana Snow White paint and my 3/4 Soft Mop Brush and made that orange pumpkin white! Two coats did the trick–one to prime and one to cover. Be sure that your brush stroked all go the same direction for best results.
While I had my paint and brush out I grabbed some branches from my backyard and painted those as well. Those only needed one coat since it doesn’t really matter if they’re perfect.
Once the white paint was dry, I taped off some sections of my branches and the top 2/3 of the pumpkin, and hit them with some Krylon Gold Metallic spray paint. (Just remember, whatever is under the tape will stay white.)
After the gold paint dried, I added a band of black and white washi tape around the pumpkin just above the gold paint to help tie it into the rest of my Halloween decor.
I slipped my gold striped branches into a simple grey frosted glass vase. I love the visual interest they add to my Halloween console table.
Here’s the set together with the rest of my entryway Halloween decor.
I love the touches of gold with the black and white decor we put up this year. I’m really happy with how the entryway turned out.
So, what do you think? Would you include gold accents in your Halloween decor?
