An important part of the holiday season is creating and maintaining family traditions. Each family has different ones, so I thought it would be fun to share one of our favorite holiday family traditions with you. It’s one of our absolute favorites!
Every year, sometime between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve, we visit a world-famous local Christmas light display in downtown Salt Lake City at Temple Square.
Not only are the lights absolutely amazing, but there are free Christmas concerts and the atmosphere downtown is lively and fun.
They also have international life size nativity scenes with Christmas songs playing in different languages, and beautiful luminaries lighting the walkways. One of our favorites parts!
Our kids love this tradition and look forward to is every year. Christmas just wouldn’t be the same without it!
Why is this family holiday tradition so important? Writer Kelly Smith from ChristianParenting.org shares some reasons why families need traditions in her article, The Importance of Establishing Family Traditions.
She shares:
- Family traditions provide constancy.
- Family traditions provide continuity.
- Family traditions provide comfort.
- Family traditions provide a connection.
