diy unicorn party cupcake wraps and toppers

I’ve been so inspired by all the unicorns popping up everywhere! They’re pretty, and magical, and feminine, and I love how much they’ve inspired art, pop culture, design, and the craft industry as well. Recently, I put together some Unicorn Party Ideas and shared them on a local lifestyle TV show, Studio 5. Today I’m sharing one of my favorite ideas, Unicorn Cupcake Wraps and Toppers!

I made some Unicorn Party Cupcake Wraps and Toppers with the DIY Party Board from We R Memory Keepers to coordinate with all the adorable partyware from Amy.

I kept with her sweet and feminine color scheme, and drew faces that match her designs.

To make the unicorn cupcake wraps and toppers, I trimmed my paper down to size per the instructions on the DIY Party Board for making cupcake wraps and mini party hats.

When I assembled the wraps and toppers, I hot glued them–a cordless hot glue gun is my preferred adhesive for 3D paper projects. I also trimmed the tip off the mini party hats, and rolled them much more tightly than normal for the party hats so that they look like unicorn horns.

After I hot glued the horns, I trimmed about 1/2 inch off the bottom to make it even.

Using my American Crafts Slick Writer permanent acid-free pen (bold size), I drew the unicorn faces onto the cupcake wraps before hot gluing them.

Then I punched out some stars from the scraps of the white cardstock I used for the wraps, then them trimmed the stars into five ear shapes, hot gluing them to the top of the inside of the cupcake wraps so the unicorns have ears. (I love short cuts like that!)

I inserted the horns about 1/2 inch into the frosting to make sure they were secure and that they didn’t fall off the cupcakes.

I displayed them on one of my very favorite new toys, the Magic Sweet Stand by The Sweet Tooth Fairy (Megan Faulkner Brown). If you like to bake and/or entertain, it’s the only cake stand you will ever need. Ever.

It’s got three collapsable tiers (that’s right…collapsable), so you can have all three up at once for three layers; you can lower the top one and have only two up, or you can have a flat one-layer cake stand. You can add posts for hanging banners, or a sign where you can write with a dry erase marker, or you can add a label holder with a label. And the best part? All those goodies come with the stand and store in the base. Yep, I said all the parts store in the collapsed base friends! Amaze-balls!
