diy easter countdown

Easter is a really special holiday at our house. As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints we have a strong belief that Jesus was resurrected and overcame death for us, and we celebrate that amazing gift at Easter time. So, I try to make this holiday more like Christmas at our house. Not that we give tons of gifts, but we try to focus our thoughts and efforts on the Savior this time of year.
An Easter Countdown is one way we try to do that. We add special activities and scripture versus to the countdown, so in addition to getting treats and doing fun things we learn about the last week of Jesus’ life and what that means for us. This Easter countdown craft is easy to make and can be used over and over again. Check out how I made it!

I used some craft tools to make this project easier. The We R Memory Keepers Mini Envelope Punch Board is the perfect tool for making countdown-size envelopes that you can fill with fun holiday activity ideas, stickers, small treats, scripture versus or quotes.

I started by selecting a pretty ombre print from the new DCWV Spring Bloom Premium Stack. Since the Premium Stacks are double sided, they’re perfect for this project. I followed the directions on the Mini Envelope Punch Board for making 2 1/2 inch square envelopes. For my countdown I made 9 of them.

Once I finished making all my envelopes, I punched out nine 2 1/2 inch squares of smooth white Bazzill Basics cardstock with my Square Punch Board. I love that tool, and I swear I’ve used it more often than I expected I would!

I made a list of fun Easter activities that my kids love to do, and typed them up on the white squares with my Typecast Typwriter.

The Crate Paper Magnet Studio is the perfect way to display this countdown. I added a vinyl cling border to the top of the 9×13 magnetic board, and then spelled out “EASTER” with the 3 inch gold magnetic letters.

Using my Spring Loaded Scissors, I trimmed 1 inch long pieces of a self-adhesive magnetic strip and added them to the backs of the envelopes.

I added the magnet-backed mini envelopes to the board and filled them with the typed Easter activity squares I made. Then I embellished and numbered each of the envelopes and the project title with stickers and die cuts from the Crate Paper Chasing Dreams collection, and Thickers from the Crate Paper Good Vibes collection.
I love how this turned out, and my girls are really excited to get started on this countdown the week before Easter!
