Are you ready to rock the new year? Have you got your planner set up for success in 2020? I’m getting my 2020 planners ready to go and I’ve got a really easy and cool way to personalize your planner cover. I’m a huge fan of foil–especially gold or rose gold foil–so I wanted to add a custom gold touch to my 2020 planner cover. It was easy and I’ll show you how!
I found my planner at Joann Stores, but you can use any leather or faux leather planner or journal cover for this. I also love the Journal Studio kits from American Crafts, which you can find HERE.
For projects that fit into my Silhouette Cameo I use my Foil Quill pens to add foil designs. But my go-to tool for adding foil accents to projects that don’t fit into my cutting machine is the Foil Quill Freestyle Pens. They’re also USB power, but they don’t need to be inserted into a machine. The tools are shaped like a pen, they’re ergonomic and easy to hold. The barrel is tapered so you can see exactly where you’re placing the tip.
The pens come in Fine, Standard, Bold and Calligraphy tips. I used the Bold tip for this project so the numbers were chunky and easy to see. Since these heat pens are USB power, let me share a few of my favorite ways to power them. For portability I love the We R USB Power Pack. It’s perfect for on the go crafting, and I always use it to charge my phone when I’m traveling. It’s light weight, has two ports and is very powerful.
When crafting at home, I love to use the Foil Quill USB Modular Storage. I can store my pens, placement tape, foil rolls, and more in it, and it has three USB ports. Whatever power source you decide to use, let your pen heat up for 10 minutes before use.
