Hello friends! It’s about that time during the summer that I’m always searching for activities and ideas to keep my kids entertained. As a work-at-home I love finding activities that my youngest daughter can do with just enough help to get her started, and I’ve got the perfect one to share with you! Check out this fun kids craft idea for making DIY summer wire jewelry.
Using my Happy Jig I created some wire jewelry. It was easy to do, and I love how it turned out!
To create the necklace, I made a pineapple shape using the pink wire. This pineapple shape is found on the @werhappyjig Instagram account. You can also find a simpler pineapple design in the instruction booklet that comes with the Happy Jig.
I wanted to make it slightly larger than it shows on the template, so I cut 18 inches of wire (instead of the recommended 16 inches) and stretched out the design so it reached the bottom and top of the grid on the jig. You can see where I placed all the pegs on the grid in the image below if you’d like to make a larger pineapple for yourself.
Once I finshed designing the pineapple, I added a small silver jump ring to attach it to the silver chain. You can pick up jump rings, chains, and other jewelry making supplies at your local craft store or online HERE.
To make the earrings, I created two Palm Leaves with green wire according to the directions in the Happy Jig instruction booklet that comes with the tool. I left a little extra wire on the starting end for attaching to the earring hook. I used a jump ring to keep the hook and the wire design facing the right direction.
What I love about Happy Jig jewelry is that the wire is so light weight, but very sturdy. So the jewelry pieces aren’t heavy, but they’ll last for quite a while. This would be a great summer kids craft, or an activity for a small outdoor playdate. You could even have a family girls night and make some just for fun.
Thanks for stopping by! If you create something with the Happy Jig, be sure to share it online and tag me so I can see what you make. Happy summer crafting!
