Do girls ever grow out of loving mermaids and unicorns? At this point I’m going to say that’s a no. My daughter is turning 11 soon and still loves her mermaid swimming tail, mermaid tail blanket, and mermaid slime. Here’s an idea for a summer celebration that girls of all ages are sure to love. Check out a few elements for the perfect mermaid party!
This DIY mermaid party decor starts with some mermaid tail party hats.
It was easy to make these with some blue to green ombre 12×12 paper and the We R Memory Keepers DIY Party Board.
Then I cut out a mermaid tail from gold metallic paper, and added some tropical leaf die cuts, punched paper stars and gold fringe tape to finish them off.
The second part of this DIY Mermaid Party Set is the mermaid favor bags. I use a few We R tools to put these together.
First I started by making the glassine favor bags with the Goodie Bag Guide. The paper I used is part of the Oh Goodie collection. It’s grease proof, food safe and oh so pretty.
Then I created the wire mermaid embellishments for the bags with the We R Happy Jig. The wire design tool comes with an instruction booklet with several templates and there are more available on the @werhappyjig Instagram account.
Each design comes with the option to make it a paper clip and that was the perfect way to attach it to the favor bag.
Next up is the custom sentiment that I made with the Word Punch Board.
After punching the word I backed the strip of patterned paper with some white paper to make the letters stand out a bit more.
I added some tropical leaf die cuts to make the ones on the party hats to complete the bags and I love how they turned out!
There are a lot more fun ways to make a mermaid party special, but these will get you going in the right direction for sure. Summer may look a bit different this year, but creativity and ingenuity will make a big difference in creating lasting memories. Happy summer crafting friends!
