snow globe holiday card with the mold press

Let’s talk holiday cards. You can buy pre-made Christmas cards and that’s totally fine if that’s what you want to do. I do it myself! But, if you’re looking for a unique handmade holiday card idea, how about a snow globe Christmas card! This fun and interactive card includes a clear plastic dome filled with fake snow and a lovely little winter scene behind it. Your loved ones will definitely remember this card! I made this snowglobe holiday card with my Mold Press and I’m excited to share how.

If you haven’t heard of the We R Memory Keepers Mold Press, it’s a totally amazing tool! It’s a vacuform machine that allows you to make 3D plastic shapes from everyday/household items. You can use those 3D shapes as molds for making chocolates, candy, ceramic crafts, resin crafts, handmade soap, candles and more. You can also use those plastic shapes to craft with, and that’s exactly what I did for this snowglobe shaker card.

First I created the plastic dome shape with my Mold Press. To do that I grabbed a 2 inch rubber bouncy ball that my daughter got years ago from a dollar store. She never plays with it anymore, so she was happy to donate it to the cause. I cut it in half–well, not exactly in half–and used the smaller side for this project.

If you’d like to learn more about the Mold Press and see how I made this card, check out my FREE virtual class in partnership with We R Memory Keepers and Michaels Stores.
This class includes three holiday Mold Press projects. First I share an overview of the Mold Press, and then my first project is the snow globe card which starts at about 11 minutes into the video, just FYI.

What I love about this snowglobe shaker card is that the snowglobe part is separate from the winter scene behind it, so when you open the card you see the pretty winter scene without looking through the snowglobe. Pretty cool, right? I just cut a circle from the plastic scraps after making the dome and used it to back the snowglobe and hold the fake snow in.
This was such a fun card to make and I just love how it turned out! So, what do you think? Would you make a snowglobe card? Let me know in the comments!

how to make a winter wonderland tumbler with the spin it pro

Christmas is coming up pretty quickly, but there’s still time to make some cool handmade gifts for your loved ones. If you need a gift idea for a teacher, coworker, neighbor or friend, a custom tumbler is definitely the way to go! One of my favorite ways to make a glitter tumbler is using the mica swirl method, which makes for a perfect winter themed tumbler. I’ve got a tumbler video tutorial for you below, so check it out!

What I love about this mica swirl tumbler is that it looks like a blizzard with the white and aqua swirled mica, the silver holographic glitter, and the snowflake confetti. So pretty and magical!

To make this Winter Wonderland Tumbler, you’ll need some supplies. You can find all of these supplies at Michaels Stores, and here’s what you’ll need:
You’ll also need something to protect your work surface and Spin It machine. That could be a sheet of plastic, newspaper, butcher paper, wax paper, etc. I made this tumbler with the new We R Memory Keepers Spin It Pro, which is a new upgrade from the original Spin It Tumbler Turner.
Want to know what’s new on the Spin It Pro? I’ll show you my favorite features!

First, the spring loaded arm holds cups on very securely. They allow for making tons of different sizes of tumblers, and are strong and reliable. No tumblers falling off!

Next, I love the ridged base! It’s easy to remove while the cup is on so you can let your cup finish curing while starting another one. Or you can use it for spray painting and hydro-dipping without having to remove your cup. So cool!

And lastly, I love the new support for the arm. You can create custom tumblers up to 32 oz on this machine, no problem! Yay!

Once you’ve gathered all your supplies, you’re ready to make your custom glitter tumbler! I recently taught a FREE virtual class hosted by Michaels Stores showing how to make this beautiful mica swirl tumbler, and you can watch it for FREE below!

This custom tumbler makes a perfect stocking stuffer for your loved one, don’t you think?

Thanks for stopping by! If you’re a seasoned tumbler maker, this is a great handmade holiday gift idea. If you’re new to tumbler making, this is a great project to learn how. Be sure to share your tumbler creations online so I can see what you’re making. Happy holiday crafting!

make your own acetate planner dashboard with the disc power punch

I love being able to customize my planners and make them my own. To be honest, creativity is as important in my planning as staying organized is! I created an acetate weekly dashboard to help keep track of where I am in my planner and I’m excited to share it with you!

Make a custom weekly planner dashboard with the Disc Power Punch

I was so excited when I heard about the new We R Memory Keepers Disc Power Punch! It’s got the same power as the traditional Crop A Dile, but with a disc punch for disc bound planners, journal, and notebooks. It can punch through chipboard, leather, plastic, thin wood, thin tin and multiple sheets of paper or cardstock. Just imagine how creative you can get with your planner!

Make a custom weekly planner dashboard with the Disc Power Punch
I wanted to make a semi transparent dashboard for the weekly section of my Maggie Holmes Day-To-Day Planner. That way I can easily find my place, and I can still pretty well see both sides of my planner spread at the same time. I started by making a simple 6 x 8 1/2 inch frame with the We R Memory Keepers Frame Punch Board.
I made the top side of the frame 1 inch wide and then the other three sides 1/2 inch wide, then I used my Word Punch Board to punch out the word “weekly”. I slipped some vellum paper in behind the frame, then I laminated it and trimmed it down to 7 x 9 inches, the size of my planner pages.
I punched disc holes with my Disc Power Punch along the left edge, and embellished it with stickers and washi tape from the Maggie Holmes Marigold collection, and then added it to my weekly planner section.

This must-have tool punched right through my laminated plastic and it can also punch through leather, chipboard, thin wood, thin tin and multiple sheets of paper. It opens up so many creative possibilities for planners!

Thanks for stopping by! The Disc Power Punch is definitely a game changer when it comes to planning, journaling, and book binding. Grab one from Michaels stores or shop online below.

monochromatic halloween cupcake toppers

Hey there friends! While we were sick at our house, I had to put a pause on some posts I wanted to schedule. I know Halloween’s over, and I’m totally ready for the holidays, but I just had to share this fun idea with you. This black and white party idea could obviously work as Halloween party decor, but if you have a loved one who’s celebrating an over the hill birthday, this would work great too!

Halloween Cupcake Toppers by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers

This Halloween season I’ve been inspired by ravens, owls, moths, and other vintage style critter images. I wanted to create something like that for my cupcake toppers, but I didn’t have a Halloween themed stamp that looked anything like that. So, I grabbed my Precision Press Advanced, a set of bird layered stamps, some silver, grey, and black ink pads, and went to work!

I love the monochromatic colors! They’re perfect for Halloween party treats, or as cupcake toppers for an over the hill birthday party.

When using layered stamps I recommend starting with the lightest color of ink first, and then working in order to the darkest.

We R Memory Keepers Precision Press Advanced

Once I stamped all of my black birds, I used my Detail Scissors to fussy cut the shapes. To dress up my cupcakes, I made some cupcake wrappers with the DIY Party Board and some black patterned paper.

Then I glued the wrappers together, and glued some black and write striped paper straw sections to my blackbirds with the USB Power Mini Glue Gun. Hot glue is my go-to adhesive for 3D paper crafts.

To finish off my cupcake toppers, I added black seguin stickers for the eyes, and black bows I made with the some black floss.

I love the texture that the monochromatic colors and the layered stamps create!

The toppers together with the black marble cupcake wrappers look pretty cool too!

Whether you use this black and white cupcake toppers for your Halloween Party or for an over the hill birthday party, they’ll be the star of the show! Thanks for stopping by, and I promise holiday posts are coming soon!

DIY gratitude journal

One of my favorite traditions this time of year is my gratitude journal. For a few weeks in November I keep a daily record of the things I’m thankful for leading up to Thanksgiving Day. It’s really helped me to focus on the positive and see the good, both totally transformative ways of thinking. I’ve done this for several years and I realized I’ve never shared my 2018 gratitude journal. Let me show you!

My gratitude journals are usually pretty bulky as I like to add photos, memborabilia, pockets, and other goodies. I decided to disassemble my journal notebook using the Supreme Ruler and my craft knife, and then bind it back together with The Cinch to allow for more bulk. I simply cut right down the center on the middle page. The craft knife cut through easily. I used the new 1″ black Cinch wires to bind my notebook because they match the black accents in the Journal Studio collection.

I created tab dividers from some patterned papers with the Tab Punch Board, and then added some divider stickers to some of the notebook pages.

I also used The Cinch to add an ephemera card that I embellished with some washi tape, stickers, and the Journal Studio Magnetic Alphabet Stencils.

I added these inserts after I had already bound my journal–it was a bit of an afterthought, LOL! But that didn’t cause a single problem–Planner Punch Board to the rescue!

I created one page as an introduction explaining my goals and purpose for this gratitude journal. I included a current photo of me, and I embellished the spread with the Journal Guide, Interchangeable Stamps, ephemera and stickers.

halloween memory keeping with the foil quill

Hello and Happy October! It’s hard to believe it’s almost Halloween, right? That kind of snuck up on me. Well, today I’m excited to share an easy and impactful Halloween scrapbooking project. I used some of my favorite crafting tools to create custom foiled patterned paper and titles to make my album. Check it out!

This spooky album includes pockets I made with the Pocket Punch Board that are stitched together. I adhered photos onto tags that I inserted in each of the pockets.

Let me show you how I made this Foil Quill Halloween Mini Album! First, I foiled some spider web designs on black cardstock to make custom foiled patterned paper. I sized the images to 6 inches so I could cut them down and make 2 3/4 x 2 3/4 pockets.
IMG_1216IMG_1217
Using the Magnetic Mat made the job quicker since I was foiling only and not cutting. I used the Standard Tip and a Silver 12×12 Foil Sheet. The spider web designs are from my personal SVG library, and the words and phrases are from THIS Hello Heidi Digital Halloween Bundle.

I trimmed the paper down to the size indicated on the Pocket Punch Board to make 2 3/4 x 2 3/4 inch notch pockets, and made my pockets.

I cut tags from different black and white patterned papers with the Tag Punch Board, and then I punched out some stars and half moons using the Mini Clear Cut Punches.

celebrate fall with a foil quill freestyle pen cider bar

Fall is here! Yay! This year we’ve had a warm start to the season, but hopefully soon it will be sweater weather. One of my favorite fall traditions is apple cider. I have a hot cup almost every night during the cold weather (sugar free, of course). I’m so inpsired by my love for cider, that I decided to create this fun idea for a fall get-together–an apple cider bar!
Apple Cider Bar with the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quil Freestyle Pens and the DCWV Inc Cider Woods paper stack. Supplies for this project are available at Joann Stores.

Throw this together after an evening at the corn maze or pumpkin patch, and enjoy some yummy warm drinks and fall snacks! This project features the Foil Quill Freestyle Pens, and I love the sparkle the foil adds to this pretty fall scene.
Apple Cider Bar with the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quil Freestyle Pens and the DCWV Inc Cider Woods paper stack. Supplies for this project are available at Joann Stores.
For the fall leaf backdrop, I cut out some leaf shapes with my electronic cutting machine. I used some shapes from the Foil Quill USB Drives, and others from my personal library of SVG files.
Apple Cider Bar with the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quil Freestyle Pens and the DCWV Inc Cider Woods paper stack. Supplies for this project are available at Joann Stores.
The focal piece of this party decor is the banner, which I created with the Banner Punch Board, some black smooth cardstock, the Alphabet Punch Board and papers from the DCWV Inc Cider Woods stack, available at Joann Stores. To add foil to the banner, I used a metal magnetic ruler, magnetic mat, and the Calligraphy Tip Freestyle Pen to get the wide lines.
Apple Cider Bar with the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quil Freestyle Pens and the DCWV Inc Cider Woods paper stack. Supplies for this project are available at Joann Stores.
I also made some bottle tags for the apple cider! I love the copper foil with the cider–it looks so warm and inviting.

I handwrote these tags, and then punched them out with the bracket Clear Cut Punch. If you have great handwriting, it looks pretty cool, but even if you don’t love your handwriting, it’s a wonderful way to add a personal touch to your projects–your own writing in foil! So cool!
IMG_0264
Here’s how I made the bottle tags–super easy! I cut 3×7 inch blocks of patterned paper, rounded the corners with the 3 Way Corner Rounder, scored them in half, and then punched a 2 inch hole in the center of one half. (You can save the leftover 2 inch circles for another project.)
Apple Cider Bar with the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quil Freestyle Pens and the DCWV Inc Cider Woods paper stack. Supplies for this project are available at Joann Stores.
To make the cinnamon streusel muffin topper I used one of the Foil Quill Stencils, and punched the letters out with the Tag Clear Cut Punch.

Again, I used the Calligraphy Tip Pen to fill in the letters from my Foil Quill Stencil. This would also make a great cake or cupcake topper!
IMG_0276
Then I made some embellishments for the cups holding the cider mix-ins: one cup of caramels (drop them in and let them melt, then stir) and one cup of cinnamon sticks (place them in and stir, then let them sit).

The technique for making these is one of my favorites to use with the Freestyle Pens! I printed the fall images on thin copy paper and then placed the printed images over the foil, which was over my cardstock. The foil transfers beautifully even with the copy paper on top. You can also use vellum or tracing paper. Then I punched out the foiled designs.

The images I used are PNG files from the Holiday Foil Quill USB Drive. Each USB drive has both SVG and PNG files, and you can open the PNG files in a word document and print them for tracing!
I love how the Freestyle Pens add such a special touch to my fall project. I can’t wait to use them for holiday projects too!

diy quote book: lowercase word punch board & icon punches

Hey there my friends! I’m excited to share a special project with you. I’m a firm believer in the power of words. They can uplift, inspire, and encourage, or they can tear down, demean, and destroy. It’s important to me to fill my mind with inspiring and uplifting words each day. I do that through reading scriptures and talks by church leaders, but I also love good quotes, so I made a DIY Quote Book!

DIY Quote Book with the new Lowercase Punch Board and Icon Punches by We R Memory Keepers

This DIY quote book stands on a work surface, counter or dresser where you can see it everyday. You can flip through the different quotes to remind you of good vibes and positive thoughts.
DIY Quote Book with the new Lowercase Punch Board and Icon Punches by We R Memory Keepers

The book covers are 6×6 chipboard sheets that I covered with patterned paper from the Maggie Holmes Heritage collection. I embellished the cover with some gold American Crafts Thickers, and stickers from the Maggie Holmes Day to Day collection.

DIY Quote Book with the new Lowercase Punch Board and Icon Punches by We R Memory Keepers
The inside pages are also from the Maggie Holmes Day-to-Day collection. I trimmed them down to 6×6 inches so they fit into the book. The book is divided into three themes, and I made a title for each of the themes with my new Lowercase Word Punch Board and Icon Punches. The pages in each section include a quote sticker that I love from the Maggie Holmes Day-to-Day collection. The quotes fit with the theme for each section of the book. I’ll continue to add to each section when I come across a quote I love that fits the themes.
The first theme is “work hard”. The first quote for that section says, ” Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.”

The theme of the next section is “be kind”. I love the cute serif font of the Lowercase Word Punch Board, and the Icon Punches add such a fun look too! The first quote for this theme is, “Do all things with kindness and love”.
DIY Quote Book with the new Lowercase Punch Board and Icon Punches by We R Memory Keepers
I embellished my inside pages with washi tape, stickers, and sticky notes from the Day-to-Day collection. I love to layer them up to create a unique collage cluster on each page.

DIY Quote Book with the new Lowercase Punch Board and Icon Punches by We R Memory Keepers
The last theme in my quote book is “be you”. The first quote for this section says, “Be your own kind of beautiful”. I also added some phrase stickers that say, “Shine bright” and “You are enough”.
I'll continue to add to this section when I come across a quote I love.

I'll continue to add to this section when I come across a quote I love.

This will sit on the desk in my office so I can keep adding quotes and display different ones each day. I love having positive and uplifting thoughts within eyesight throughout my house. It definitely lifts and inspires me when I see them.

dorm room decor ideas

We’ve had our two college age sons home doing online classes since March this year, and while we’ve loved having them here, they’re ready to get back to campus. They’ll have a hybrid in-class and online experience until the Thanksgiving holiday when they transition to fully online classes. With some universities starting classes again, I thought I’d share a project I created for my daughter who’s returning to college next winter. Attending BYU is a lifelong dream for this girl! I’m so proud of her and I wanted to celebrate her exciting achievement with some fun dorm decor that she can proudly hang in her new digs next year.

DIY Dorm Room Decor by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers

Her school colors are navy blue and tan. Since the walls in her dorm room are a light beige (pretty close to tan), I decided to stick with navy and another coordinating blue color. I started by punching out her school letters with the Alphabet Punch Board. To give them a bit more emphasis I punched out two sets of letters Bazzill cardstock, one in cornflower blue and one in navy. Then I adhered them so that the darker blue creates the look of a shadow.

I used my Crop-A-Dile to punch holes in the tops of the letters for hanging.

We R Memory Keepers Alphabet Punch Board

Next, I made some pennants with my Banner Punch Board to give the garland that classic college feel.

I made some tassels with the new Tassel Loom and some yarn I picked up at my local craft store in my daughter’s school colors.

Last, I made some extra large pom poms with the Jumbo Pom Pom Maker and strung them together to make a garland with a tassel at each end.

I hung both the pom pom garland and the school letters garland up with some fairy lights to complete the look.

I love how easy it was to create this fun decor with my stash of We R tools, and I can’t wait to help my daughter get settled in her new dorm room next year. (Though I may shed a few tears on the drive home). Enjoy the rest of your week, and happy crafting friends!

make back to school season special with the foil quill

Hello crafty friends! “Back to School” season looks totally different this year. For some it’s home school, for others it’s a hybrid online/in school plan, and for some it’s all at school but with extra safety precautions. Whatever your school year looks like, it’s important to still create routines and rituals that help kids feel as normal and comfortable as possible. So I thought a fun Back to School Party might help us all get excited for the new (albeit different) school year!
Foil Quill Back to School Party by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers 1

Since I really want this celebration to feel special, I pulled out my Foil Quill Pens and Foil to add some sparkle and shine. The Holiday USB Design Drive has some fun school themed art so I started there and added a few things from my own library of SVG files.
Foil Quill Back to School Party by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers 5
I love combining foiling with cutting because it makes my projects go much more quickly. Using my Silhouette Cameo 3, here’s how I foiled two colors and die cut the cupcake wrappers:
  1. Heat up your Foil Quill. Open your cut files and your foiling files and arrange them at the bottom end of the mat on your screen.
  2. Using the Line Style tool create different color lines for each color of foil, and for the cut files as well.
  3. Click “SEND” and then “Line” at the top right of your screen. Insert your Foil Quill in the tool holder with the blue circle and make sure your blade is in the tool holder with the red circle.
  4. Check the box for the first color of foil, adjust your settings for your material. Be sure the blue tool holder is selected (the small circle on the right) and load the mat in the machine with the material and foil placed at the bottom end of your mat. Click “SEND”.screenshot 1

  5. When the foiling is finished, the machine will move the mat most of the way out of the machine. Do not unload the mat! Carefully peel off the foil, and then add the second color of foil while the mat is still loaded in the machine.
  6. Unselect the box for the first color of foil, and select the box for the second foil color. Adjust the settings. Be sure the blue tool holder is selected. Click “SEND”.
    screenshot 2

  7. As before, do not unload the mat when the machine is done foiling the second color. Carefully remove the foil.
  8. Unselect the box for the second color of foil, and select the box for the cut files. Be sure the red tool holder is selected (on the left) and click “SEND”.
    screenshot 3

  9. Assemble the cupcake wraps with hot glue or strong double sided craft tape
Foil Quill Back to School Party by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers 7
For the cupcake wrappers I used the Foil Quill to add the sentiment. Then for the paper airplane toppers I used it to create a foil patterned background on my cardstock, trimmed several 3×3 inch squares, and then used the Mini Score Board to help fold the mini paper airplanes.
We R Memory Keepers Mini Score Board
Foil Quill Back to School Party by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers 8
To make the framed art, I used one of the designs from the Holiday USB drive as a cut file on white vinyl, and then adhered it to the Crate Paper Magnet Studio chalkboard frame. The Large Bone Folder help to smooth out the vinyl nicely. I foiled the apple design from the Holiday USB drive on red vinyl, cut a circle around it and then adhered it to the chalkboard. I love the result!

To make the banner, I used the apple design again but created a repeating pattern with it to make my own foiled patterned paper! So cool!

The 12 x 12 Foil Sheets came in really handy for this job. I just placed them over my cardstock, foiled the entire thing, and then used my Banner Punch Board to make the banners.

No matter the circumstances, creating memorable rituals and celebrations surrounding this unique school year will help make it a great one. I hope these Foil Quill Back to School Party Ideas have inspired you to get out your Foil Quill and start creating. Have a great day, and thanks for stopping by!
