Hey there friends! We are in full summer mode here with hot temperatures, lazy mornings, trips to the pool, and Independence Day coming soon. I’ve got a festive DIY patriotic decor idea to share with you featuring some leftover vinyl that I added a gold foil pattern to. Check it out!
The focal point of my patriotic decor is this vinyl sign that I made my Silhouette Cameo, the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill and the Crate Paper Magnet Studio frame.
The design file comes from the We R Holiday USB Drive, which has 200 SVG files perfect for cutting or foiling for any holiday during the year.
I started by opening the “Oh My Stars” design in my software and resizing it to fit my frame. Then I created a simple circle pattern that I foiled over the vinyl before cutting it out. Once I completed my foiled vinyl design and added it to my frame, I wanted to create a few more DIY decor items to accompany it.
First, I used the Tassel Loom to make what I call a Waterfall Tassel Garland. I simply made four 6 inch tassels, and then used a yarn needle to string them all together and hang them.
Next, I made a couple of mini garlands with some gold glitter paper and a gold mylar sheet. I used my circle and star Mini Clear Cut Punches (1 inch) to punch out the shapes, then I taped two shapes together (right sides out) with some gold metallic thread sandwiched in between.
I love using these punches because I can move them anywhere on my paper to punch, which means I can use EVERY INCH of my paper scraps. So satisfying, right?!?
I threw in a flag and a plant decorated with blue striped washi tape to complete my patriotic vignette, and I love how it turned out!
